If your players ever meet these reporters, do not have any of them sleep with a source.
You know America's earliest investigative journalist, Nellie Bly, got the scoop on the horrifying conditions in turn of the century mental institutions by intentionally getting herself committed to one? Woman was hardcore. Nor anything more badass than the coolest journalists of history have done. You can't do anything more ridiculous than shoddy journalists of history have actually done. Unless you wanna give it a yellow journalism feel, in which case, go wild. Now, if someone you interview thinks that and says as much to you, you're welcome to report that Steve the Peeve thinks so, but you cannot say so yourself. No, you aren't allowed to speculate that the mayor is a secret alien come to kidnap us all. Which is more restrictive than most people probably think, given that I've only ever seen a few movies and video games that actually have news articles that read like news articles. Now that license is expensive, so don't buy it. What most papers I've known (and every one I've ever written and designed for) use is Adobe InDesign.I've used explained rarely, and added when I'm giving additional information after a quote, but not really much more than that. Most of the time, your quote tags are gonna be said. Laugh as the city burns in a chorus of groans. Got a story about bees? Unleash all your "buzz about town" puns. Keep it punchy, keep it interesting, don't fear the pun. Sometimes the story alone is enough (I saw a paper once submit the lede from a crime story for an award because the crime itself was so absurd that merely accurately describing it was hysterical). Speaking of ledes, this is your hook, so make it sing.I remember being taught that the lede - the first line of a story - shouldn't be longer than 25 words (although as recently as ye olden days of the 90s, before the internet, you could get away with 40, which for a fantasy setting, is probably what you're going to want). Keep your writing simple, punchy and lean.Make it hard to ignore, and make it worth the news. Biggest two articles are going to be front dominant - the big photo, and the headline just below the masthead (the part at the top of the paper where it lists its name).I'm sure the suggestions that others give will do your job, but I want to give you some advice on how to actually write it to feel authentic. r/boardgames - Boardgames that isn't TTRPGsĮx-journo here.Hide "Table Troubles"-threads Related Subreddits Hide promo)-threads - (Crowdfunding, Free, Product, Self Promotion) You can discuss these Weekly Free Chat-thread.ĪMA Guide tips if you want to hold an AMA Filters Off-Topic: Book trade, Boardgames, wargames, video games are generally off-topic.Comments deemed abusive may be removed by moderators.
